Introduction to Robotic Fabrication in Architecture

Seminar in Advanced Digital Fabrication - Winter 2020

Abstract

The prevalence of robotic tools has increased over the past decade, affecting architecture design and production modes. The seminar examined this influence, exploring how emerging tools change architecture, landscape architecture. It introduced the field and discussed the interactions between the architect, the robotic tool, materials, and their evolving relationships with the history of automation. Given the possibilities offered by on-site robotic construction, this examination served as a background for envisioning robotic futures and potential roles for custom tools in shaping natural environments.
